PLAKIAS

The coastal village of Plakias is situated at the Prefecture of Rethymno, just 35 km to the south of the main city Rethymno. The breathtaking mountain range surrounding Plakias is carved open by the Kourtaliotiko and Kotsifos gorges. Paligremnos, the main cliff above the sandy beach that seems like a laser cut vertical wall, offers mountain climbing opportunities to the more adventurous.

The visitor can enjoy swimming in one of the longest beaches of south Crete with clear blue waters, or can visit (by car or on foot) nearby beaches as Damnoni, Ammoudi, Souda, Shinaria and the famous beach of Preveli with the lake and the palms. The remarkable Holy Monastery of Preveli with its glorious history that neighbours the beach is unmissable.

In addition, for nature lovers, the area provides the possibility to hike and wander around several close by villages such as Sellia, Myrthios, Mariou, Leykogia, Monastery of Preveli and Kotsifos gorge in which you will find a wide variety of wildflowers.
